The quintessential country doctor, Dr. Baker enjoyed outdoor pursuits including ranching, hunting, fishing and riding.
These chaps belonged to G. R. Baker.
His wife, Nellie Baker was an accomplished rider. She frequently rode in races, even travelling to Barkerville and Prince George to compete. Displayed here, Nellie's racing saddle was given to her by her father when she was 13.

Nellie frequently rode in races, even travelling to Barkerville and Prince George to compete. She also trained horses. Clarence Twan, winner of this trophy, rode for Nellie from age ten until age eighteen when Nellie deemed him too heavy to be a jockey.

This brand was used to mark cattle and horses at the Baker's North Star Ranch. They raised cattle, horses, geese and chickens in addition to treating patients throughout the Cariboo.
The North Star Ranch was on North Star Road, near the present location of the Cariboo Pulp Mill.
Dr. Baker was known for his prowess with a rifle. In 1941 he was called upon to shoot a black bear that had killed 10 sheep on the Wilson & Steere farm. While others had failed in their attempts to kill the bear, Baker credited his dog, Curly, for the success of his hunt.
One of Dr Baker's shotguns is in the gun case third from the top.
This anchor, carried in the Baker's buggy, was used to tether horses.
